My clinical work evolved to include study in classical and feminist theory. In my Master of Arts program, traditional psychoanalytic/psychodynamic approaches were also informed by a de-centering of the patriarchal or privileged perspective, a reclaiming of the concept of the personal as political, an awareness of marginalized groups and how each individual nature is shaped by their particular environment or nurture.

This lens or focus, as well as an exposure to international philosophy or ways of knowing, allows me to perceive what is beneath the surface and to hear one’s voice with greater clarity and truth. Using empathy as a tool of inquiry, I may begin work with self psychology, exploring the past interpersonal relationships with others and building ego strength to bring a client into present relationship with self.
